Gwen Gunderson calls herself a 'whimsical and life-affirming expressionist folk artist' with eclectic dashes of multi-cultural iconography and mixed media'. She was born and raised in Seattle, Washington, and transplanted to Mountain View, California via Venice, CA some four decades ago. Gwen's love affair with art began in adolescence. But she set that aside to pursue careers as a singer/songwriter/musician, and then a professional psychotherapist.

A while ago, Gwen revisited her love of art as a way through Stage III breast cancer treatments - pursuing painting with acrylics, creating framed mixed media pieces utilizing her own photography, prints of her own paintings, repurposed and "found-objects" - as well as beaded/jeweled original-design necklaces, bracelets, and keyrings. Travels to Australian, Asian, African, western/eastern European, Hispanic and Russian cultures have influenced her love of vivid colors, folk artistry and religious iconography. "Art reflects the fascinating realms of the human experience, and definitely uplifts the soul, especially in spirit-squelching times", Gwen asserts. "I ain't no Van Gogh (fave painter), but I hope that my small contribution to making the world a better place lies in the creative beauty and whimsy of these pieces".
